Skin Type Descriptions DRY: Dry skin does not produce enough oil to provide sufficient protection from water-loss. As a result, the skin surface dries more rapidly and develops surface lines more easily. Lack of oil production and thus water retention contributes to collagen breakdown which leads to deep wrinkles. Dry skin types require more exfoliation and additional hydration and protection. Normal: Normal skin produces a balance of oil which provides sufficient protection from water-loss. As a result, the skin surface is neither too dry nor too oily and remains generally clear of blemishes. With consistent care and maintenance, this skin type ages well with minimal wrinkles. Normal skin types require regular exfoliation and hydration and additional protection. Combination-Dry: Combination-Dry skin produces excess oil in only one or two areas of the face (like nose and chin) with the other areas remaining dry. Combination-Dry skin behaves much like Normal skin with a tendency toward excessive shininess in 1 or 2 areas of the face. With consistent care and maintenance, this skin type ages well with minimal wrinkles and blemishes. Combination-Dry skin types require regular exfoliation and hydration with some spot blemish/oil control. Combination-Oily: Combination-Oily skin produces excess oil in three or more areas of the face (like forehead, nose and chin) with the other areas remaining dry. Combination-Oily skin can behave like Normal skin during the colder seasons with a tendency toward excessive shininess in 3 or more areas especially in the warmer seasons. Combination-Oily skin types require regular exfoliation and spot blemish/oil control. Oily-Clear: Oily-Clear skin produces excess oil in all areas of the face. Oily-Clear skin can behave like Normal skin with very few blemish problems and no wrinkles but with a tendency toward excessive shininess all over throughout the seasons. Oily-Clear skin types require regular exfoliation and oil control without over stripping. Oily-Acne: Oily-Acne skin produces excess oil in all areas of the face accompanied by blemishes in varied areas. Oily-Acne skin can behave erratically with blemish problems and a tendency toward excessive shininess all over throughout the seasons. The fall/winter seasons tend to help calm some of the acne eruptions. Oily-Acne skin types require regular exfoliation, blemish therapy and oil control without over-stripping. Oil is not cause of acne. So stripping the skin of oil is not the answer to clearing acne. Gentle nourishing care is. Oily-Sensitive: Oily-Sensitive skin produces excess oil in all areas of the face accompanied by blemishes and excess sensitivity in varied areas. Oily-Sensitive skin can behave erratically with blemish problems, irritability and a tendency toward excessive shininess all over throughout the seasons. The fall/winter seasons tend to bring dry patches and itchiness while the warmer seasons bring about acne breakouts. Oily-Sensitive skin types require gentle exfoliation, spot blemish therapy and oil control by utilizing gentle, nourishing care. Dehydrated: The symptoms of Dehydrated skin express a lack of water in the skin. Dehydrated skin can be irritated with blemish problems and a tendency toward rough skin and dry patches. All skin types can be dehydrated as this is referring to the amount of water the skin retains. This is why all skin types require a moisturizer to prevent water evaporation. Dehydrated skin requires gentle exfoliation and nourishing care. |
